PDF Compressor
Try to shrink PDFs by optimizing their structure.
About this tool
This tool re-saves a PDF using compressed object streams in your browser. It reports the original and output sizes and offers a download only if the new file is smaller. It does not shrink the pictures inside a scanned PDF.
How it works
- Choose or drop a PDF; keep an original copy for comparison.
- Click Compress PDF to re-save its internal structure.
- If a smaller copy is available, compare the measured sizes, open the download, and check a few pages. If not, keep the original.
Example use cases
- Mostly text and vector graphics: Try a report with selectable text and diagrams. If a 2 MB input becomes 1.8 MB, the tool will show the measured saving; verify the pages before using the new file.
- Scanned pages: A 10 MB PDF made of scanned pages may stay around 10 MB. Its embedded images are not recompressed here, so choose an image-aware PDF workflow if size remains a problem.
Frequently asked questions
Will compression make the PDF text unreadable?
The tool does not intentionally change text or image resolution. Open the downloaded file and spot-check pages, fonts, links, and forms before replacing an important original.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No - password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before the compressor can process them.
