Image Compressor
Reduce image size without visible quality loss.
About this tool
This tool re-encodes a JPEG or PNG as a JPEG in your browser. It shows the original and new file sizes so you can judge whether the conversion helped. It does not resize the image or preserve PNG transparency.
How it works
- Click or drag and drop your JPEG or PNG image into the upload area.
- Adjust the quality slider to control the compression level.
- Click Compress to process the image.
- Compare the reported file sizes and check the output before downloading. A result can be larger than the original.
Example use cases
- A photographic blog image: Try a photographic JPEG at 80% quality, then compare the measured size and zoom in on fine detail. Keep the original if the smaller copy looks noticeably worse.
- Logo with transparent edges: A transparent PNG logo is a poor candidate: this tool outputs JPEG and removes transparency. Keep the PNG or use a different workflow when transparent edges matter.
Frequently asked questions
Will compression reduce image quality?
It can. JPEG encoding discards image information; changes are easier to spot near text, thin lines, and high-contrast edges. Compare your download with the original at its intended display size.
Is my image uploaded to your servers?
No - all compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.
