Work Hours Calculator - Free Online Tool
Calculate shift hours and hours above a chosen weekly threshold.
About this tool
Calculate paid time for one repeated shift, total weekly hours, and the portion above an overtime threshold you choose. Enter 24-hour clock times, subtract one unpaid break per shift, and set the number of days with that shift each week.
How it works
- Enter clock-in and clock-out times; an earlier clock-out time is treated as the following day.
- Enter unpaid break minutes for each shift and the number of days per week worked (1-7).
- Set the weekly overtime threshold in hours, then compare paid shift hours, weekly hours, regular hours, and hours above that threshold.
Example use cases
- Repeated daytime shift: A 09:00-17:30 shift with a 30-minute unpaid break is 8 paid hours. Repeated over 5 days, it totals 40 weekly hours; with a 40-hour threshold, none are above the entered threshold.
- Overnight shift: A 22:00-06:00 shift spans 8 elapsed hours. Subtract a 30-minute unpaid break for 7.5 paid hours; use the weekly days and threshold fields to calculate the arithmetic weekly split.
Frequently asked questions
How does it handle a shift that crosses midnight?
If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the calculator treats clock-out as the next day. Equal clock-in and clock-out times are not accepted because a 24-hour shift is unsupported.
Does “hours above threshold” tell me how much overtime pay I am owed?
No. It subtracts your chosen weekly threshold from the calculated weekly hours, if any. Workplace policies and applicable rules determine which hours qualify and how they are paid.
