Salary Calculator
Break down your annual salary.
About this tool
The Salary Calculator divides an annual gross salary into monthly, weekly, daily, and hourly amounts. It is a quick way to put a yearly offer into everyday terms, not a take-home-pay estimate.
How it works
- Enter your annual gross salary.
- Read the monthly (annual ÷ 12), weekly (annual ÷ 52), daily (annual ÷ 260), and hourly (annual ÷ 2,080) equivalents.
- Compare gross offers on the same basis, then use your payslip or an employer's benefits details to estimate actual take-home pay.
Example use cases
- Putting an offer in context: A $72,000 gross salary works out to $6,000 per month, about $1,384.62 per week, and about $34.62 per paid hour on these assumptions. None of those figures is take-home pay.
- Checking a part-time schedule: If your paid week is 30 hours rather than 40, do not use the displayed hourly figure as a rate. Divide the annual salary by your actual paid hours across the year instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does it calculate my after-tax salary?
No. It only divides a gross annual salary into time periods. To estimate money deposited in your account, start with a current payslip and account for your own taxes and deductions.
Why is the weekly amount different from half the monthly amount?
A month is not exactly four weeks. Monthly pay uses 12 periods per year; weekly pay uses 52. If you are paid twice monthly or every two weeks, calculate those amounts using 24 or 26 pay periods respectively.
